Wim Gijselaers

Wim Gijselaers is Professor of Education at the department of Educational Development and Educational Research at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Maastricht University the Netherlands. His research and development work is about design of problem-based learning practices, cognition and instruction, expertise development in management education, and shared cognition in teams. He received several grants from the Dutch Government and the Dutch Science Foundation for projects on educational development and fundamental research on learning behaviour of multi-professional teams. His professional career started at the problem-based Medical School of Maastricht University. Over the past 20 years, he was involved with the implementation and further development of problem-based learning in the Economics and International Business Programs at this University.

His work as learning sciences consultant is about curriculum reform and change management in higher education and business. He is founding chair of the international network for Innovation in Economics and Business Education (EDINEB, 1993). He served as Associate Dean of Education. Currently he is chair of the department of Educational Development and Educational Research, at the Faculty of Economics and Business (Maastricht University).
