Raoul Haenbeukers

Raoul is since September 2007 a PhD. candidate at the Department of Economics at Maastricht University. He holds a Master Degree in Behavioral Economics and Labor Market Economics. His research focuses in general on the acquisition of skills that are valuable in the labor market in terms of earnings. Specifically his study aims at identifying the true returns to distinguishable human capital investment activities like traditional education, classromm training and learning-at-work. Moreover the study aims at estimating the relative returns to these human capital investments and particularly if and how these relative returns differ across individuals and job types. This could help to explain the observed pattern in workers' behavior with respect to human capital investment paths and earnings. The motivation for this empirical effort will be supplied by a theoretical model on the trade-off between schooling, classroon training and learning-at-work. This model provides a rationale for deviating relative returns to investments across individuals and job types. Assignment theory will play a crucial role in this model.
