Piet van den Bossche

Piet Van den Bossche (1977) is assistant professor at the department of Educational Research and Development of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Maastricht University. He obtained his Master degree (‘Licentiate’) in Educational Sciences at the Faculty of Psychology and Pedagogical Sciences of the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium). He has a Ph.D. from Maastricht University (‘Minds in Teams. The influence of social and cognitive factors on team learning’).
He started his career as a junior researcher at the department of Educational Development & Research at the University of Maastricht.  During this period he was involved in several research projects concerning quality assurance and innovation of the education at the faculty. He also was a part-time lecturer at a centre for adult education in Ghent (Belgium). From 2001 to 2005, in addition to a part-time assistant professorship at the department of Educational Development & Research, Piet Van den Bossche was involved in the project “Knowledge sharing and decision-making in collaborative multidisciplinary teams with (a)synchronous computer-mediated environments” (part of the NWO research programme “Society and ICT”) as a researcher in training.

From 2005 on, he is full-time assistant Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Maastricht University. He teaches courses in the areas of collaborative and workplace learning and is involved in the start-up of the M.Sc. programme “Management of Learning” at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. In his research, Piet Van den Bossche is interested in team learning. The focus is on the cognitive and social demands of teams to share, develop, and use different types of knowledge. Next to his research and education, he consults higher education institutions on the implementation of student-centered learning environments, both national and international.
